Donning the colours of a remarkably multicultural city, Lucknow, the Awadhe Warriors are poised, once again, to play some very competitive and high quality badminton. Lucknow has been a great incubator of badminton players and Awadhe Warriors is proud to carry this mantle and legacy forward.
The city of Nawabs is no stranger to hosting top badminton players for prestigious international tournaments. Starting with the first Asian Confederation Badminton Championship held in 1965 to the India Open Grand Prix Gold, which is a $120,000 international badminton tournament held at the BBD UPBA since 2009, Lucknow has always held a special place for the sport of badminton.
The dedication, commitment and love for the game in the city has blended effortlessly with the upcoming season of the Vodafone Premier Badminton League, the highest prize money badminton tournament in the world.
The snazzy Babu Banarsi Das UP Badminton Academy (BBD UPBA), the hub for the sport in this region, will continue to host the Awadhe Warriors team for this season of the Vodafone Premier Badminton League. Facilitating a world-class arena for the best talent in the world to showcase their mettle and enabling the fans to view the game in the best possible manner are the strengths of BBD UPBA.
Standing like a rock behind Awadhe Warriors, cheering, inspiring, facilitating and supporting them is Sahara India Pariwar. The organization that has for three decades been a pillar of support for Indian sports be it Cricket, Hockey, Polo, Archery, Wrestling, Boxing, Shooting, et al. Sahara India Pariwar has always believed in sports and played its part in encouraging, nurturing and supporting not just the games but also individual talents from the grassroots to the international levels.
The Awadhe Warriors will also be looking up for inspiration at one of the greatest Indian shuttlers from India, the late Syed Modi. An eight-time National champion, Modi originally hailed from Gorakhpur but he honed his skills in Lucknow and walked into the limelight at the 1982 Commonwealth Games, where he clinched the men’s singles title. The city of Nawabs celebrates his memory each year by hosting the Syed Modi India Open Grand Prix Gold at BBD UPBA. The Awadhe Warriors are determined to continue this spectacular legacy through their dedication and performance at the upcoming season of Vodafone Premier Badminton League. The Awadhe Warriors enjoy the entire city’s support and backing as their fans get ready to root for them to bring home the title.
With the best talents from the Indian as well as the international landscape, and a keenly balanced team, Awadhe Warriors will make for a play that will surely keep its fans on the edge of their seats with a promise to make it a highly entertaining and competitive league.
Be there to watch, support and cheer the Awadhe Warriors!
